Coaching Blog : Spread your fingers !

This is something that’s hard to believe can affect your shot.

Spreading the fingers out on your non-racket hand as you hit the ball help you control your shot. I don’t know why, but it does.

I remember years ago hearing that Malcolm Willstrop was teaching this at Pontefract, and I thought it didn’t really make a difference. I thought some people naturally did it, and some people naturally didn’t, and it didn’t make a difference. After making myself do it about 15 years ago I can say it definitely seems to help with balance, and therefore equals more control on every shot, whether you are hitting to the back or the front.
